About

Perimenopause is more than a hormonal transition. It can be a profound developmental passage affecting the nervous system, emotional regulation, relationships, identity, boundaries, and sense of purpose. Clinicians working with women in midlife will often encounter these changes, whether or not perimenopause is the presenting concern. This course offers licensed clinicians a clinically grounded framework for recognizing perimenopause as an important therapeutic terrain. Drawing from polyvagal theory, ambiguous loss, narrative therapy, and expressive arts therapy, participants will explore practical ways to support clients through nervous-system regulation, grief and anger processing, boundary work, identity reconstruction, and meaning-making. The course includes theoretical foundations, case material, reflective practices, clinical techniques, and scope-of-practice considerations for LPATs, LPCCs, LMFTs, and transpersonally oriented practitioners. This course does not train clinicians to diagnose or treat hormonal conditions. Medical evaluation and management remain outside the scope of counseling and art therapy licensure. A companion workbook is available and recommended to accompany the course, offering guided reflections, exercises, and clinical application activities to deepen learning and support integration of the material.
